Rules for Chametz After Pesach

Please do NOT use the Chametz in your home until after 9:30pm on Sunday night (4/20/2025) to allow for its repurchase.
Chametz that was willfully owned by a Jew over Pesach is prohibited by rabbinic decree. If that Chametz was accidentally kept (after bittul) or sold, it would be permitted. Kashrut organizations do their best to sell the Chametz of Jewish owned businesses, but there are still exigencies that may prohibit the food.
Greenfield’s SHOPRITE in Plainview (Woodbury Road and Country Point) is Jewish owned, but sold Chametz through the Kof-k. Therefore…
*All Chametz products that were delivered BEFORE Pesach or AFTER Pesach are permitted for purchase immediately. For example, one may purchase shelf stable goods such as cereal, crackers, as well as frozen goods immediately, as we can assume they were purchased before Pesach.
*So too, one may purchase fresh bagels, bread, and Challah as of Monday (4/21/2025) morning as they were produced after Pesach.
*Chametz products delivered on Pesach are subject to prohibition. Therefore packaged breads which were likely delivered to ShopRite on Pesach may not be purchased. One should wait at least ONE WEEK to ensure that the shelved merchandise has turned over.
BAGEL BOSS in Hicksville sold Chametz with Rabbi Asher Schechter and was closed for the holiday. Therefore the Chametz sold is permitted the next day (4/21/25).
CHENAI DOSAS (Hicksville) and DUCHESS COOKIES (Plainview) are owned by non-Jews. Their Chametz is permitted immediately.
